Richard Melde, MD
Dr. Richard Melde grew up in SW Minnesota before moving to Scottsdale in 1959. He graduated from Scottsdale High School and went on to study pre-med at Occidental College in Los Angeles.
Dr. Melde returned to Arizona where he earned his medical degree in 1971 as one of the very first classes of 32 students at the University of Arizona School of Medicine.
He completed his internship and residency at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, AZ and went on to practice emergency medicine. He was the Medical Director of the emergency department at Desert Samaritan Hospital for approximately 25 years and subsequently received an MBA degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and also attended the American College of Homeopathy in Phoenix as well.
He received a second license in the state of Arizona for homeopathic and integrated medicine, MD(H). He practiced family medicine in Wickenberg, Arizona before offering his services as a family practice physician with us here at Palo Verde Family Care.
Dr. Melde is a first-generation medical doctor from a family of multi-level medical professionals. He is the eldest of nine children and currently resides in Scottsdale with his beautiful wife of 45 years, Patty. They have five daughters and 10 grandchildren. Weekly family dinners are a wonderful part of their lives as Patty who is an RN, is a fantastic cook.
Dr. Melde believes that the path to personal health wellness is best achieved through good lifestyle habits, including diet and exercise, and meaningful relationships and connections.
Throughout all of Dr. Melde's wide range work experience, he has loved small-town family medicine where he has the opportunity to develop trusting relationships and get to know his patients on a personal level.
